Kayla Cheatham is a certified family nurse practitioner that received her Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Duke University. She has over 7 years of diverse work experience in the nursing profession including working as a certified nursing assistant in an inpatient behavioral health unit, working as a bedside nurse in critical care, and completing her nurse practitioner clinical rotations in primary care and internal medicine where she frequently completed care plans for patients with various mental health diagnoses. She is passionate about understanding all aspects of health and she is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Duke University in which she intends to specialize in psychiatry. She is passionate about creating a safe, non-judgmental space where mental health is understood, validated and prioritized. She loves working together, with her patients to find the best treatment plans that will meet the patients’ individual needs, respect preferences, and couple with evidence-based practice. She believes that mental health care should be holistic and inclusive to everyone. She wants to help all patients achieve their mental health goals.
Mrs. Cheatham enjoys learning new things and she is constantly participating in various opportunities to advance her education and knowledge. She enjoys reading, studying, and researching new psychiatric treatment modalities as technology, science and the profession continues to evolve and become more advanced.
She is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honors Society.
Throughout her nursing career she has served as a preceptor and mentor to many students while being active an active participant in various volunteer activities in the community.
